In the history of Women Empowerment, 15th May, 1907 can be considered a landmark day or an epoch-making day. Two Visionary & Philanthropic Ladies, namely, Late Smt. Bajigauri Munshi & Late Smt. Shivgauri Gajjar laid the foundation of educating girls & transformed their lives by inculcating self-reliance through various educational & vocational courses.

It is rightly said, “An enlightened woman is a source of infinite strength.” True, indeed! If you educate and train one girl, she becomes the source of strength, courage & economic independence, not just to herself but to her entire family & to the society at large. Back in those days, a girl child was deprived of so many things. A special ‘ashram’ was founded for the upliftment of women. It is a truly remarkable and a noteworthy idea. It is the phenomenal power to create, to nurture & to transform an institution from a humble ‘ashram’ into one of the largest educational institutions of South Gujarat, is a matter of great pride and glory. Indeed! Women empowerment has truly become the hallmark of Vanita Vishram. They are synonymous & complementary.

“A woman is the full circle.
Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.”
– Diane Mariechild

Under the guidance and able leadership of Vanita Vishram, Mumbai, the Surat Campus of Vanita Vishram provides education to more than 14,000 girl students and offers various short-term, value-added certificate courses for equipping the students with skills and thereby enhancing their employment opportunities.

One of the latest developments in the unstoppable journey of Vanita Vishram, Surat is the establishment of Vanita Vishram Women’s University (VVWU), on 01 June, 2021. It is established under the provisions of the Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2009 as well as listed under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. It is also the First-ever Women’s University of Gujarat, which is indeed a very proud moment not only for Vanita Vishram but also for the entire state of Gujarat. I am glad to state that the Vision & Mission of the University has led to the designing of the curriculum.

Moreover, all the UG, PG & PG Diploma programmes and courses are strategically placed under 4 Schools:

  1. School of Humanities and Social Sciences
  2. School of Commerce and Business Management
  3. School of Science and Technology
  4. School of Vocational Studies

Since its inception, Vanita Vishram Women’s University has taken number of initiatives for the holistic development of its students in order to inculcate academic, scientific and research-oriented temperament. Soon, the University is going to launch Ph.D. programme which shall add feathers to the cap of VVWU.

My sincere thanks to all the stakeholders of Vanita Vishram and Vanita Vishram Women’s University for taking all the pains in order to ensure the growth and development of the institution. It is very heartening to note that despite COVID 19 Pandemic, the Management, the staff and the students of Vanita Vishram has continued to perform their duties relentlessly.

I believe that Vanita Vishram and all its constituent units, both in Mumbai and Surat shall continue their on-going saga of success and glory in the years to come and thereby create a reservoir of next-generation women leaders and entrepreneurs.

I consider it as my singular honour & privilege to serve such a wonderful and prestigious institution.

God Bless Vanita Vishram!

With Best Wishes
